ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted during summer season 2014 at Research Farm of Agronomy Section in the College of Agriculture, Dhule to evaluate the effect of irrigation scheduling and mulching on growth, yield, and quality in sweet corn. The experiment was laid out in a Split-plot design with four replications, assigning 8 treatments consisting 4 irrigation schedules and 2 mulching treatments. The results revealed that different irrigation scheduling and mulching significantly influenced the growth, yield and quality of sweet corn. But, the interaction effect between irrigation scheduling and mulching on same attributes were found to non-significant.The treatments irrigation scheduling IW/CPE ratio 1.00 and mulch @ 5 t/ha of chick pea, is done after the 10th day from the common irrigation, recorded the significantly higher plant height, leaf area and plant dry matter of sweet corn. The highest yield attributing characters and green cob yield (190.82 qtl. ha-1), (175.43 qtl. ha-1) respectively was recorded in Irrigation scheduling IW/CPE ratio 1.00 and mulching. While, treatments irrigation scheduling as per critical growth stages and without mulch recorded lesser plant height, leaf area, and plant dry matter as well as yield. Similar trend was observed in quality parameters viz., total sugar, reducing and non-reducing sugar and protein percent.
