ABSTRACT
The field experiment was conducted at Horticulture Instructional Farm, Department of Horticulture, C.P. College of Agriculture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricl. University, Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat during kharif-rabi season of 2012-13 to determine the growth, yield and quality of sweet potato variety “Local Red” influenced by different nitrogen levels and planting time with Factorial Randomized block design (FRBD) along with three replication. The results of present investigation revealed that maximum length of vine (268.24 cm) at 160 DAP and (374.86 cm) at harvest, number of leaves per plant (25.58 & 174.32) at 40 & 160 DAP and (206.75) at harvest, number of nodes per plant (24.92) at 160 DAP and (31.74) at harvest, total leaf area (5581 cm2) at harvest, maximum tuber weight (0.385 kg), number of tubers per plant (7.92), yield per plot (10.12 kg) and yield per hectare (29.23 t) where as in case of quality maximum length (27.81 cm), diameter (4.95 cm) and volume of tuber (292.35 cc) was observed with earlier planting i.e. 15th July (d1). Among different level of nitrogen recorded maximum length of vine at 40, 80, 120, 160 DAP and at harvest (59.41, 111.95, 160.31, 267.76 and 372.89 cm respectively), maximum leaves per plant at 40, 120, 160 DAP and at harvest (25.52, 94.69, 173.76 and 205.33 respectively), maximum number of nodes per plant at 80, 120, 160 DAP and at harvest (15.66, 18.89, 24.98 and 31.18 respectively) and total leaf area (5306 cm2), maximum tuber weight (0.335 kg), number of tubers per plant (7.58), yield per plot (9.31 kg) and yield per hectare (27.36 t) in quality maximum length (23.73 cm), diameter of tuber (4.72 cm), TSS (24.98 0brix) volume of tuber (243.58 cc) and non-reducing sugar (18.48 %) was observed with higher dose of nitrogen i.e. 100 kg/ha. Maximum gross return (Rs. 2,92,300), net return (Rs. 2,08,550) and CBR (3.49) was recorded with 15th July planting and application of nitrogen @ 100 kg/ha.
