ABSTRACT
Management through chemical fungicides cause serious environmental problems and are toxic to non-target organisms as well. Plant metabolites and plant-based pesticides appear to be one of the better alternatives as they are known to have minimal environmental impact and danger to consumer in contrast to synthetic pesticides. In an approach towards the development of eco-friendly management, in vitro antifungal assay was conducted against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. Lycopersici. Aqueous plant extract of Cissus quadrangularis was tested on the tomato seed germination and in vitro effect on the growth of F. oxysporum was studied. The results showed that plant extract has suppressed the F. oxysporum influence on seed germination promoted the seed germination to a tune of 20.3% in Resistant (INDEX-300) followed by treated (9.5%) compared to control. Similarly increased vigour of the seed germination was also noticed as 747.6 in Resistant (INDEX-300) followed by treated seeds (656.0) compared to control (562.4) indicating that the botanical extract could be a good alternative in developing a potent plant based fungicides which can be used in organic farming for the management of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici in combating with wilt infection of tomato cultivation.
