ABSTRACT
Knowledge of crop water requirement is important in agriculture for designing and managing irrigation and drainage systems. An efficient utilization of available irrigation water is essential in an assured crop production program. Development of crop coefficient (Kc) can enhance crop water requirement estimates at specific crop growth stages. This research was, therefore, conducted to determine specific Kc at different growth stages at six different moisture stress levels (At FC, 10 %, 20 %, 30 %, 40 %, and 50 % deficit of FC) for groundnut crop (Arachis hypogaea L.) at instructional farm, College of Agricultural Engineering, which is located in semi-arid agro-climatic conditions of Raichur districts in Karnataka. Pots were used as a growing media for measurement of crop water use under water balance system on a sandy clay loam soil and local weather data were used to determine the reference evapotranspiration (ETo). Crop coefficient was developed from measured ETc and ETo using weather data. The different crop growth stages were assessed. The calculated Kc values for the groundnut crop at different moisture levels were determined. The treatment of 10 % moisture stress level of field capacity (T2) having the Kc values of 0.44, 0.78, 0.98 and 0.60 during the initial, development, mid-season, and late-season stages, respectively. These values are similar to the values reported in FAO publications for groundnut varieties.
