ABSTRACT
The field experiment on evaluation of onion (Allium cepa L.) was conducted in campus of College of Horticulture, Bagalkot in front of RKVY building, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot during 2015-16. Experiment was conducted with six different varieties of onion. Among them, growth parameters like more number of leaves were observed in Arka Bindu (10.50), highest plant height was noticed in Arka Niketan (56.50 cm) and the highest leaf length reported in Arka Niketan (50.25). More no. of rings were seen in Arka bindu (10.50) and lowest in Arka Kalyan (7.75). TSS was found highest in Arka Keetiman (15.70 ?B). Among the yield parameters, bulb weight was highest in Arka Bindu (61.68 g), where as, total weight was reported highest in Arka Laleema (4.63 kg). Regarding the physiological weight loss studies, initial physiological weight was highest in Arka Kalyan (1006.75 g), where as physiological weight loss at 10 days, Arka Niketan (958.75 g), physiological loss in 20 days was found highest in Arka Niketan (941.00 g)and finally , physiological loss in 30 days was noticed highest weight loss in Arka Niketan (923.50 g).Thus onion is an important crop with many medicinal values, it has good yield and quality attributes. Thus identification of promising varieties as a commercial crop for the area with high yield and quality fruits would help the farmers in its adoption and improving their economic status.
