ABSTRACT
Genetic variability and heritability of different characters was studied using 31 genotypes including three checks. All genotypes shown divergence variation for all the characters. High phenotypic coefficient of variation was observed for plant height and 100 seed weight, whereas high genotypic coefficient of variation was observed plant height, final plant population and grain yield/ plot. High values of heritability coupled with high genetic advance as % mean were observed for the characters grain yield/ plot, cob yield/ plot. Correlation and path analysis for twelve yield attributing characters were conducted for thirty one maize genotypes. Both were indicated cob yield per plot, grain yield, shelling percentage, had significant positive direct effects on grain yield/plant which were effective in improvement of grain yield in maize genotypes.
