ABSTRACT
An investigation was undertaken to study the genetic divergence of 30 sweet potato genotypes subjected to Mahalanobis D2 statistics for 13 characters. Based on D2 values 30 genotypes were grouped into 6 distinct non overlapping clusters. Cluster-I was the largest comprising 11 genotypes, followed by Clusters-III (7) and II (5). Clusters IV and V comprised three genotype each. The maximum intra-cluster distance was recorded for cluster V (67.22) followed by cluster III (53.20) and cluster II (32.70). The maximum inter cluster distance was found by cluster I with VI (312.22) followed by cluster III with VI (264.34) and cluster II with V (262.72). As regards cluster means, Clusters-III, V and VI performed better in most of the biometric characters studied. The high per cent contribution towards genetic divergence was exhibited by the leaf area (38.62%), followed by dry matter (31.49%), total soluble solid (14.48%).
