ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted to study Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for some traits in Yardlong bean. Forty one genotypes of Yardlong bean were evaluated for yield and yield component characters in a field experiment in Randomized Block Design with three replications during kharif, 2013. Analysis of Variance revealed significant differences among varieties for all the characters. Phenotypic variation was greater than that of genotypic variations for all the characters concerned. The maximum phenotypic and genotypic coefficient (PCV and GCV) was observed for the characters viz., number of pods per plant (26.64 and 24.26), pod length (cm) (31.01 and 30.86) pod ascorbic acid content (mg/100g) (37.77 and 36.89), and pod yield per plant (g) (23.14 and 20.00). High estimates of heritability (broad sense) were observed for pod length (99 per cent), pod girth (94 per cent), plant height (79 per cent), pod yield per plant (75 per cent), terminal leaf breadth (69 per cent), seed protein content (67 per cent), number of clusters per plant (64 per cent) and seed number per pod (62 per cent) with high genetic advance in per cent of mean indicated the scope for improvement of these characters through selection.
