ABSTRACT
Evaluation of two hundred twenty three foxtail millet germplasm accessions were done at three diverse agro-climatic conditions viz., Bangalore (E1), Nandyal (E2) and Coimbatore (E3) during kharif 2012. This study was initiated to identify trait specific germplasm for agronomic and nutritional quality parameters at multi location evaluation of reference set of foxtail millet. A number of diverse germplasm accessions for multiple traits in reference with agronomically (Days to 50 per cent flowering, plant height, number of basal tillers, inflorescence length, test weight and grain yield per plant) and nutritionally (protein, calcium, iron and zinc) superior traits were identified for use in foxtail millet breeding. Accessions such as GS 125, ISe 1026, ISe 1406, ISe 1647 and GS 961 for high protein; ISe 1181, ISe 1227, ISe 1059, ISe 1418 and ISe 1161 for high calcium; GS 754, ISe 1511, GS 2040, ISe 1400 and GS 563 for high iron content and ISe 748, ISe 1387, ISe 1511, GS 2239 and GS 2040 were identified as promising high zinc content accessions for grain nutritional parameters in pooled environment. Genotypes viz., GS 125, GS 754, GS 1929, GS 2040, GS 2041, ISe 748, ISe 769, ISe 1026, ISe 1181, ISe 1227, ISe 1320, ISe 1400, ISe 1685, ISe 1789, ISe 1808 and RFM 10 were superior for multiple traits.
