ABSTRACT
Linseed / Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is rich in fat, protein and dietary fibre and it has become known as a functional food due to its nutritional composition, which has positive effects on disease prevention providing health-beneficial components. The protein content of linseed varies from 20 to 30 %. Linseeds are great for women's health. Keeping all this in view a study on acceptability of linseed products was carried out among rural women of Hisar district, Haryana. The experiment was carried in two villages- Gawar and Burak of Hisar II block. Thirty respondents who were in age group 20-30 years and educated up to high school from each village were selected. Training was conducted in each village on 18.12.15(Gawar)-19.12.15(Burak). Acceptability of linseed products was seen in terms of Increase in knowledge, skill acquisition and symbolic adoption and feedback of the respondents about the products. Maximum increase in knowledge was observed regarding general information on linseed (76.6%) followed by benefits (51.9%) and forms of consumption (51.1%) in village Gawar whereas in village Burak maximum increase in knowledge was observed for forms of consumption of linseed (71.2%) followed by general information (58.9%) and benefits (51.9%).Regarding skill acquisition respondents could prepare chapatti and panjiri very easily in both the villages. Overall opinion of linseed products were placed between somewhat liked to liked categories (MS 2.82) in village Gawar wheras in Burak Overall opinion of linseed products were placed in liked category (MS 2.94. Willingness of respondents for adopting linseed products for home consumption) showed that in village Gawar 60.0 per cent respondents were ready to adopt linseed products without difficulty whereas in village Burak 80.0 per cent can adopt linseed products without difficulty for home consumption.
