ABSTRACT
The present study was carried out at Seed Research and Technology Centre, Rajendranagar during 2015-2016 to study the effect of modified atmosphere with elevated levels of CO2 on rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae in stored maize. Seeds were artificially infested with Sitophilus oryzae and exposed to CO2 (30%, 40% and 50 %and 60%) packed in air tight containers. maize seed treated with 50 and 60 per cent CO2 concentrations were able to maintain germination percentage (90.67 and 91.00), respectively above IMSCS, but unable to maintain infestation level below the permissible level.
Key words :
Elevated CO2, Maize, Pest management, Sitophilus oryzae.
