ABSTRACT
The present research was conducted to analysis of variance indicated that the mean sum of squares due to blocks were no significant for all the traits except oil content. The mean sum of squares due to checks were highly significant for days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity, plant height (cm), pod bearing length (cm), number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, number of seeds per plant, 100 seed weight (g) and protein content (%) whereas it is significant for number of pod bearing nodes and seed yield per plant (g). Comparatively high magnitude of coefficient of variation (>20%) was observed for all the characters viz; days to 50 % (27.71%), days to maturity (20.17%), plant height (cm) (35.98%), number of primary branches per plant (32.22%), pod bearing length (66.39%), number of pod bearing nodes (25.66%), number of pods per plant (32.74%), number of seeds per pod (25.46%), number of seeds per plant (37.95%), 100 seed weight ( 24.62%), seed yield per plant (42.55%), protein content (20.72%) and oil content (21.84%). Moderate magnitude of coefficient of variation (10-20%) and low magnitude of coefficient of variation (<10%) was not observed for any characters. The results indicated presence of variability among the soybean genotypes for all the characters, which showed chances of improvement on the basis of such traits.
