ABSTRACT
Guava fruit of variety 'Lucknow 49' was treated with 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) for different concentrations such as 300, 600 and 900 nll-1 for exposure time of 3, 6 and 9 hours and then stored at ambient storage (20 to 30°C, 55 to 70 % RH) conditions. Fruit firmness, skin colour and respiration rate and some physico-chemical properties were analyzed. The treated fruits showed a better retention in firmness and colour and reduced respiration rate. Shelf life of 1-MCP treated guava increased while compared to control. Fruits treated with 900 nll-1 for 3 h, 600 nll-1 for 6 h and 9 h resulted in good quality with extended shelf-life 8 days in ambient storage conditions.
