ABSTRACT
Agriculture is the driving force of economy of our country. There is growing awareness of health and environmental issues associated with the indiscriminate use of pesticides and fertilizers. The alternative farm of production such as organic farming is the spectrum of production methods that is supportive of the soil, environment and food safety.Research was conducted in the Western Zone of Tamil Nadu for study purpose due to more number of certified farmers in the zone. A sample of 90 farmers was selected by using Random sampling technique. The respondents were interviewed personally by a semi structured and pre-tested interview schedule. The results of the study revealed that Cent % of the certified organic farmers adopted application of farmyard manure as nutrient supplement followed by application of panchagavya and jeevamruth as growth promoters.Vast majority of respondents adopted drip irrigation system (97%) for better water management during plant growth. Two third of the respondents adopted intercropping system (86%) followed by incorporate the crop residues after the harvest of previous crops (80%) and spraying of herbal pest repellants such as Ingi Poondu karaisal (93%) and five leaf extract (85%).
