ABSTRACT
The present investigation was comprised of 67 genotypes including 3 checks to estimate genetic variability and heritability for yield and yield attributing characters during kharif 2009 showed significant genetic variations for all the characters indicated presence of high variability in maize genotypes studied. The range of variation was more for the characters studied. High genotypic coefficient was observed for fodder yield, grain weight, grains per row, leaves above upper most ear and ear length than rest of characters indicating that selection for these traits would be effective for crop improvement. High heritability coupled with high expected genetic advance was observed for plant height, days to 50% tasselling, days to 50% silking, days to maturity, fodder yield and grain yield indicating that direct selection of these traits will be useful for varietal improvement.
