ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted to determine the character association and path co-efficient analysis among grain yield and other quantitative characters in Randomized Block Design with three replications in three different environments in pearl millet with 13 parents, 36 F hybrids and two checks namely, HHB-67 Improved and HHB-299. Highly significant phenotypic and genotypic association were observed for plant height (rp= 0.6940** and rg0.9010**), panicle length (rp= 0.3574* and rg= 0.5444**), panicle diameter (rp= 0.2498* and rg = 0.3347*), panicle weight (rp = 0.7448** and rg = 0.8399**), biological yield per plant (rp = 0.7521** and rg = 0.9256**) and harvest index (rp = 0.6846** and rg = 0.8140**) were positive and significant association with grain yield per plant. Path co-efficient analysis indicated that biological yield per plant (Pp = 0.6240 and Pg = P G 0.8353) and harvest index (Pp = 0.3947 and Pg = 0.5538) on grain yield per plant had high positive direct effect and strong positive association with grain yield per plant. Thus, selection for these characters will be effective to improve grain yield in pearl millet breeding program.
