ABSTRACT
Among the common economic forest tree species, Samanea saman (Jacq) Merr. Is a common tropical shade tree yielding dark brown pods which has been recognized as a valuable supplement to cattle feeds. The present study indicates the possibility of its diversification for biofuel production. The extraction of soluble reducing sugars from the pods were optimised by various means of hot water and acid extractions. Maximum release of reducing sugars was noticed in one per cent acid extraction (313mg per gram).
Key words :
Biofuel production, Reducing sugars, Samanea samen.
