ABSTRACT
Biology and predatory potential of Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) on aphids, citrus psylla and neonate noctuids were conducted in the laboratory at 26 + 2 oC temperature and 65 5% RH at College of Agriculture, Nagpur, Maharshtra during the year 2008-2009.The experiment was planned with seven hosts viz., nymphs of cowpea aphid, cotton aphid, citrus psylla, neonates of Helicoverpa armigera, Spodoptera litura and Earias vitella and eggs of Corcyra cephalonica. The sucking pests as well as neonates of noctuids significantly influenced the development of predator. Among the treatments the H. armigera recorded the highest larval, pupal and incubation period as 11.15, 7.54 and 3.60 days respectively, where as the eggs of C. cephalonica recorded the lowest larval, pupal and incubation period as 7.07, 5.62 and 2.92 days, respectively. Among the treatments of neonates of noctuids, the S. litura recorded shortest larval, pupal and incubation period of predator as 8.90, 5.62 and 3.23 days respectively.The feeding as well as reproductive potential of C. carnea was also significantly influenced by the preys. A female laid maximum number of 449.72 eggs when the larva consumed maximum number of 549.97 eggs of C. cephalonica, where as the minimum reproductive potential (120.79 eggs/female) was found on the minimum consumption (120.98 host/larva) of nymphs of citrus psylla. The eggs of C. cephalonica also recorded shortest preoviposition period of predator as 4.17 days and the longest period was expressed on neonates of H. armigera.
