ABSTRACT
Character association studies through correlation and path analysis was carried out for achene yield and its components in 70 genotypes of sunflower. The correlation analysis revealed that eight traits viz., plant height, number of leaves per plant, head diameter, number of achenes per head, 100 achene weight, volume weight, oil content and leaf area index showed significant positive association with achene yield implying these characters may be considered as selection indices for higher yields. Studies on path analysis divulged higher positive direct effect of number of achenes per head and 100 achene weight on achene yield indicating direct selection for number of achenes per head and 100 achene weight will result in yield improvement.
