ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT
In the present investigation, 12 brinjal genotypes were characterized based on the morphological traits. Study revealed wide variation among genotypes for most of the parameters studied. Based on the fruit shape, genotypes were grouped into globular (FMGCOHB, FUGCOHB), ovoid (FKLCOHB, Brinjal Green Round), obovate (FMLCOHB, FMHCOHB) and cylindrical (Arka Anand, Arka Shirish, Arka Nidhi, Arka Kusumakar, Arka Neelkanth, Brinjal Green Long). Wide variation for plant height was recoded, it was higher in cultivar Arka Kusumakar (144 cm) and lower in FMLCOHB (27 cm). Similarly, higher plant spread was in cultivar FMGCOHB (154 cm), lower was in FKLCOHB (42 cm). Significant differences in leaf width were registered and it was heigher in cultivar Arka Kusumakar (23.1 cm) and lower (7.4 cm) in Brinjal Green Round. Fruit length was varied significantly from 31.1 cm (in Arka Anand) to 8.0 cm (in Brinjal Green Round). Similarly higher fruit diameter was recorded in the genotype FMLCOHB (16.2 cm). Whereas, lower was noticed in genotype Arka Nidhi (4.7 cm).The results showed that fruit length and diameter are inversely proportional. The morphological features could utilize to differentiate the genotypes but it is hard distinguish the genotype based on single morphological trait.
