ABSTRACT
In the present study, future irrigation water requirement (IWR) for paddy was estimated based on the ensemble of all 16 different Global Climate Models (GCM) outputs for Cauvery delta region with A1B emission scenario for mid (2040 -2069) and end (2070-2099) century using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). The average annual Potential evapotranspiration (PET) is expected to increase by 4.5% in the mid century and by 9.3 % in the end century compared to baseline (1971-2005). The increase in the average IWR is projected to be 4 to 8.1 % in the mid century and 4.5 to 14.7% in the end century with respect to baseline. The future assessment of water demand can provide a basis for researches to develop adaptation options and helps farming community for their decision making related to the use of water saving technologies for sustaining rice production under warming climate.
