ABSTRACT
To induce colchicine-treated variation in field bean an experiment was conducted. Seedlings at two leaf stage were treated with different concentration and duration of colchicine by cotton swab method. Different type of morphological variation for plants type, pods and seeds were observed in C1 and C2 generations. In C1 generation four different plant types were observed. Generally plant height decreased with the increase in concentration of colchicine. However plants were, giant in size when treated with 0.2 and 0.3 % colchicine for 9 and 12 hrs of duration and bushy when treated with 0.2 and 0.3 % for 6 hrs. Climbers were also observed when treated with 0.2 % colchicine for 6 and 12 hrs of duration. In both C1 and C2 generation pod and seed variants were normally observed with higher dose of colchicine. Plants of C2 generation were dwarf, light green in colour with shiny leaves and large pods. Pod length, seed size, number of branches and seeds per pod were also decreased at higher concentration of colchicine. Round, altered, dark and light brown in colour and larger (0.71 ± 0.72) seeds were observed in C1 generations than control (0.53 ±.018).
