ABSTRACT
The present experiment was carried out during kharif season 2013-2014 at vegetable research farm of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour to estimate general and specific combining ability for earliness and yield of bottle gourd in half diallel mating design consisting of 9 parents and their 36 F1 hybrids for ten characters. Analysis of variance for combining ability was found significant for all the character under study. Combining ability helps in selection of best parents for hybridization for exploitation of heterosis. Pusa Naveen was considered to be good general combiner for earliness, vine girth, no. of fruit/plants and fruit yield/plant, while Pusa Naveen X SBBG-31-1 was considered to be good specific combiner for earliness and fruit yield/plant.
Key words :
Bottle gourd, Combining ability, Diallel mating, Earliness, Growth & yield characters.
