ABSTRACT
The selected lines of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) were used to assess the combing ability of important yield components, and selection of potential parents and crosses for linseed breeding programme at College of Agriculture, Nagpur inrabi 2011-12. The parents padmini, PKVNL-260, T-397, Kiran, Mukta and Deepikawere good general combiners.Padmini x Mukta ,Padmini x Kiran and Neelum x T-397 exhibited significant high Sca effects for seed yield per plant ,1000 seed weight and number of capsules per plant respectively. Either three way (or) double crosses viz., (Padmini x T-397) x Deepika, (Neelum x Deepika) x T-397, (Padmini x Kiran)xMukta, (Padmini x Kiran) x Deepika, (Padmini x T-397) x (Neelum x Deepika), (Neelum x Deepika) x (Padmini x Kiran) and (Padmini x T-397) x (Padmini x Kiran)may serve as a better source for deriving superior transgrates for the number of capsules per plant, resistance to budfly, 1000 seed weight and seed yield per plant.
