ABSTRACT
The present investigation was carried out to study the general combining ability of parents and association for marketable fruit yield per plant, seed yield per plant and other plant and fruit characters with 10 parents (KS - 410, 7704, Pusa Makhmali, Pusa Sawani, Prabhani Kranti, BO - 2, KS - 353, KS - 412, KS - 404, P - 7) and 45 hybrids. The hybrids were generated through crossing ten parents in diallel fashioned design Method 2 Model 1. The parents Pusa Makhmali, KS - 353 and KS - 412 were good general combiners for weight of fruit per plant, width of fruits, number of fruits per branch, number of seeds per fruits, 100 seed weight and length of fruit and days to flowering whereas, KS - 410, P - 7 and BO - 2 were also good general combiners for number of seeds per fruits, 100 seed weight and length of fruit. Weight of fruits per plant showed positive and significant correlation with number of fruits per plant, 100 seed weight, number of fruits per branch, length of fruits length of node and days to flowering. Number of seeds per fruit exhibited positive and significant correlation with the width of fruit, 100 seed weight and number of fruits per plant.
Key words :
