ABSTRACT
The combining ability study was carried out in gladiolus based on 10 x 10 half diallel for growth traits, floral and corm characters during 2010 to 2014 utilizing ten varieties. The 45 crosses synthesised by 10 x 10 diallel (without reciprocal) cross were evaluated along with parents in randomised block design with two replications. Combining ability analysis revealed higher magnitude of SCA variance for all the traits under study. The parent White Siphon was found to be the best combiner for early spike initiation, first floret to show color and to open. Tiger Flame was the best combiner for number of florets, floret length and rachis length. IP x AB was found to be the best hybrid on the basis of sca effect for earliness with respect to spike initiation, first floret to show color and first floret to open where as for rachis length and vase life IP x TF was the best. The best specific combiner for corm weight was AB x WS and for corm diameter IP and AB were found to be best combiners.
