ABSTRACT
The three lines (JNKVVA1, ACBGA1, and ACBGA2) and ten testers (JM-218, Sankeshwar, Phule Jyoti, Hissar Vijay, Phule Mukti, Pant C-1, G-4, HO-413, K1-4C and KA-2) of chilli were crossed to derive 30 F1s. The 43 genotypes (13 parents and 30 F1s) were evaluated for general combining and specific combining ability for yield and quality traits. The higher general combining ability observed in Sankeshwer, Hissar Vijay, Phule mukti and JM -218.The higher specific combining ability (SCA) for yield was obtained in crosses JM-218 X JNKVVA1, Pant C-1 X ACBGA2, Sankeshwar X JNKVVA1, and Phule Jyoti X ACBGA1. These best hybrids (Phule Jyoti X JNKVVA1, Pant C-1 X ACBGA1, Pant C-1 X ACBGA2, K1-4C X JNKVVA1 and Hissar Vijay X ACBGA2) might be utilized for further chilli improvement programme.
