ABSTRACT
The present experiment was carried out at Anbil Dharamalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute, Trichy, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to investigate the genetic nature of sodicity tolerance in rice by studying twenty number of traits viz., days to 50 % flowering, plant height, panicle length, number of productive tillers, filled grains per panicle, single plant yield,100 grain weight, grain length, grain breadth, L / B ratio, Linear Elongation Ratio, Breadthwise Elongation Ratio, leaf length, leaf breadth, flag leaf area, Na+ / K+ ratio, catalase, total chlorophyll content, Chlorophyll Stability Index and SPAD value. The experiment was conducted in non-saline sodic soil with an Exchangeable Sodium Per cent (ESP) of 36 and pH of 9.5. Based on per se performance and gca effects, the parent CSR 36 was considered to be the best combiner for number of productive tillers, filled grains per panicle, single plant yield, plant height and chlorophyll stability index, the parent Swarna (sub1) showed best performance for cooking quality traits viz., Linear Elongation ratio and Breadth wise Elongation Ratio,
Key words :
