ABSTRACT
Briquettes made from screw press and piston press were tested for their physical and thermal properties in laboratory. Comparative results show that the calorific value of briquette in piston press was higher than the screw press. The briquette made by piston press gave lower (19180.2 KJ/kg) value. It was found that the result of briquettes pressed in piston press were better than the screw press. A complete cost analysis shows that cost of briquette production of soybean residue was highest (4203.62 Rs/t) in screw press. In piston press technology, cost of briquette production was 4841.05 Rs/t. Break even point of groundnut residue was 20.79 per cent in piston press and break even point of groundnut residue in screw press was 34.47 per cent, which reveals that piston press technique is economically viable.
