ABSTRACT
Ghritkumari is an important medicinal plants. The demand of Ghritkumari increasing due to its medicinal properties and benefits. Commercial cultivation of this crop started for fulfill the need of the industry. This paper identified the constraints faced by the farmers in the production of Ghritkumari crop. In Rajasthan Churu, Sikar, Alwer, Bhilwara, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Barmer, Jaisalmer are the main district where farmers are cultivating Ghritkumari crop. Multistage sampling carried out to know the production constraints from the farmers. Total 80 farmers interviewed with the help of pre-structured questionnaire. Churu district of the Rajasthan was selected purposively which are having highest area under Ghritkumari cultivation. Garret ranking technique (Henry Garrett) was used to analyze the constraint faced by the farmers. The respondents were asked to rank the constraints and these were converted in to scores. Higher input cost (planting material, higher labor etc.) was found to highest Garett score of 68 and rank I. The farmers also complained regarding lack of proper technical knowledge (like advance production technology and processing of the crop) as Garret score was 59 and rank as II followed by the problem related to lack of credit availability while requirement (during crop grown period) Garett score was found 54 as rank III among all the problem of the production followed by problem of damage of pest and diseases Garret rank as IV and lack of good planting material Garret rank as V. The damage of pest and diseases and lack of planting material of Ghritkumari was found least constraint among all the constraints. Problems related to lack of ready market were observed as major problem with Garett score 67 as rank first and most common constraints faced by farmers.
