ABSTRACT
In order to understand the effectiveness of contingency planning it is necessary to understand the situations of farmer in drought condition, how and what type of planning was undertaken, planning for inputs like seeds, fertilizers and pesticides etc. are undertaken considering the human resources available, household expenditure incurred and investment plans made in order to undertake the contingency plan. It is revealed that to overcome the contingency situation extension agencies of state department of agriculture and input supply agencies should regulate the supply of agriculture input to the farmers in time. It is also suggested that farmers should be provided credit for production of crops within time so that the farmers can plan their crop planning in emergency situation. It is therefore suggested that farmers should be provided information regarding weather forecasting through mass media and extension functionaries working at that region. So, that farmers will get rid of calamities, vagarious of nature and adopt contingency planning to overcome economic consequences like increase prices of foods/fodders, indebtness and social consequences like inequity among social groups , loss of livelihoods/low employment opportunities and so on. The study will be helpful to state and national agriculture scientists because it helps the policy makers during planning the remedies for aberrant situation and in helping the farmer in their crop planning in emergency situation.
