ABSTRACT
Sugarcane is grown extensively in India. Organic sugarcane cultivation was less expensive to the extent of ` 3500.00 per acre giving surplus gross and net returns of ` 8944 and ` 12444.00 per ha, respectively. Thus, organic sugarcane cultivation was more profitable with returns per rupee invested of 2.95 compared to conventional sugarcane (2.29). The cost of raw material was the prime variable cost sharing 68.86 per cent of the total cost. The share of fixed cost in the total cost was above 3.36 and 3.47 per cent in case of conventional and organic jaggery, respectively.
