ABSTRACT
Several abiotic and biotic constraints are responsible for limiting higher and more reliable yields of upland rice. Soil and climate and socio-economic factors are important abiotic constraints. Amongst the biotic constraints, weeds, blast, brown spot, stem borer, birds and rats are of great importance. These in particular apply to the cropping condition of small and marginal holders. In order to increase and safeguard their rice production, effective management methods are required. Situation specific rice varieties, which are tolerant to drought, diseases, and pests are recommended for cultivation. Besides, various cultural practices and application of herbicides, fungicides and insecticides are also suggested.
