ABSTRACT
Groundnut pod collection being labour intensive hence engineering interventions is necessary for collection of left-over pods mechanically. In this study, a tractor operated groundnut pod collecting machine was designed and developed. The main components such as main frame, digging blade, soil throwing roller, soil extension plate, sieve shaking unit, depth control wheel, transportation wheel and power transmission assembly were developed. The average field efficiency, fuel consumption, pod collection efficiency and cost of operation was 81.81%, 3.81 lit./h, 93.75% and 3782.22 ` per ha, respectively. By adapting this machine, problems of the labour crises can be reduced, when compared to manual pod picking 88.42 % saving in time and 45.97 % saving in cost can be achieved.
