ABSTRACT
In the study, an attempt was made to determine the factors influencing the consumption pattern of milk in Kolkata metropolitan of West Bengal State. The data were collected using multistage stratified random sampling technique. Of the 200 respondents, 89.6% consumed milk every day, while 13.8% consumed on certain days. The findings of the multinomial logit model for milk consumption behaviour suggested that unpacked fluid milk preference is related positively to income and size of household, age of the household head, and negatively to education level of the household head and status of the household wife. Similarly, pasteurized and sterilized fluid milk preferences are related positively to income and the education level of the household head, household size and negatively to age of the household head.
Key words :
Consumption pattern of milk, Fluid milk preference, Multinomial logistic model, Pasturized milk.
