ABSTRACT
A tractor operated tuber rhizomes digger was developed and evaluated for harvesting of turmeric and ginger crop. The tuber rhizomes digger was consisted of soil cutting blade, crop windrowing unit, main frame and the hitching arrangement. The average depth of operation of developed digger was found to be 20.3 cm and 18.7 cm for turmeric and ginger crop, respectively. The average field efficiency was found 82.73 % and 81.70 % for turmeric and ginger crop, respectively. The average digging efficiency was observed to be 98.16 % and 98.20 % in turmeric field and ginger field, respectively. The average damage percentage in mechanical harvesting was observed to be 3.51 % and 2.83 % for turmeric crop and ginger crop, respectively. The overall working of the machine to harvest the turmeric and ginger rhizome was found satisfactory.
