ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to develop a prototype of manually operated tamarind briquetting machine. The machine consisted of a mainframe, upper die, pulp box, base plate, shaft and pedal. The test results indicated a satisfactory working of the machine. There was no appreciable difference in the density of the briquettes made by male and female operators. This indicates that both the operators can perform the job efficiently through this machine under similar working condition. The density and compression ratio of both type briquettes (500g and 1 kg) was found to be 1.05 g/cm3 and 2.5:1 respectively. The capacity of prototype of tamarind briquetting machine was found to be 40 number of briquettes/h for 500 g briquette and 30 number of briquettes/h for 1 kg briquette. The cost of briquetting was calculated to be Rs. 1.42/kg for 500 g briquette and Rs. 0.95/kg for 1 kg briquette.
