ABSTRACT
Dissipation pattern of profenophos 50% EC at 500 g a.i. ha-1 was evaluated in two different situations i.e. polyhouse and open fields. Two sprays of profenophos were given, first at fruit initiation and second spray was given 10 days after last spray. The samples of tomato fruits drawn on 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 20 days after the second spray revealed average initial deposit of 1.51 and 3.25 mg kg-1, which reached BDL on 7th and 15th day in open field and polyhouse studies respectively. Half-life values of profenophos in open field and polyhouse tomatoes were 3.60 and 3.23 days respectively. In both poly house and open field initial deposits were below MRL suggested by Codex Alimentarius Commission (10 mg kg-1). Among various decontamination methods tested, veggy wash found to be very effective in removing pesticide residues to an extent of 75.84%, followed by 4% acetic acid solution with percent removal of 71.22% and tap water wash was least effective treatment with percent removal of 37.60%.
