ABSTRACT
In vitro studies were carried out to test the effect of abiotic factors such as media, nitrogen sources, carbon sources, light, pH and temperature on the growth and sporulation of Lasiodiplodia theobromae causing stem canker in mulberry nurseries. Potato dextrose agar and potato jaggery agar were found to be the most suitable media for the vegetative growth and sporulation of the fungus. The fungus utilized Potassium nitrate for maximum growth and sporulation. Among the carbon sources D-glucose, sucrose and lactose were found to be favorable for maximum growth and sporulation. Light had no influence on the growth and sporulation. Acidic pH favored the growth and sporulation and the fungus L. theobromae, which recorded maximum growth at temperatures 28 and 300 C.
