ABSTRACT
A group of 6 calves were replicated into three groups on the basis of average body weight and age. These groups were allocated to three different feeding treatments namely; T1-3 kg green maize in the ration with 400g concentrate and jowar straw, T2-3 kg anjan leaves in the ration with 400 g concentrate and jowar straw and T3-5kg anjan leaves in the ration with 300 g concentrate and jowar straw. It was observed that the body weight gain and body measurements (height, chest girth, length) were significant of different groups different from each other. Body weight and body measurements were directly proportional to each other and hence it was obvious that gain in body measurement found. The results showed that feed efficiency (DMI/kg BW gain) of calves in T1(18.4kg) was significantly more than T2 (15.25 kg) and T3 (15.011 kg) treatments. The DMI was more in T1 (5.3 kg) comparatively than T2 (3.3 kg) and T3 (4.1 kg). These three parameters were significantly different from each other.
Inclusion of anjan tree leaves in the diet of cattle calves gave significant advantage in respect to body weight gain. It was found that after feeding anjan tree leaves, the feeding cost lowered, when fed in the ration over the T1 treatment.
