ABSTRACT
The experiment on effect of biozyme through drip on growth and yield contributing characters of banana was carried out at the Department of Irrigation Water Management, M.P.K.V. Rahuri during the year 2007-2008. Periodical data of growth contributing characters such as plant height, plant girth, number of functional leaves and yield contributing characters such as number of hands per bunch, number of fingers per bunch, bunch weight, were recorded at 3 MAP, 6 MAP, 9 MAP and at the time of harvesting of banana. The data revealed that the treatment T7 (15 lit.ha-1 biozyme through drip) recorded the highest mean plant height (3.10 m), the maximum plant girth (60.80cm) and number of functional leaves (11.60), while the treatment with surface irrigation without biozyme (T1) recorded that the lowest plant height (2.47m), minimum plant girth (48.13 cm) and lowest number of functional leaves at the time of harvest. The treatment T7 (15 lit.ha-1 drip) recorded significantly maximum number of hands/bunch (9.13) as compared with the remaining treatments whereas the lowest hands per bunch (7.60) was noticed in the treatment T1. Similarly maximum number of fingers per bunch (153.33) were recorded in the treatment T7 which was at par with T6 (12.5 lit.ha-1 biozyme through drip) treatment (147.60) while the treatment T1 recorded lowest bunch weigth (14.19 kg). The maximum bunch weight 21.77 kg was recorded in treatment T7 (15 lit.ha-1 biozyme through drip) as compared with the remaining treatments. It was also observed that treatment the T7 recorded significantly highest banana yield (85.86 t/ha) which was at par with treatment T6 (82.96 t/ha) and treatment T5 i.e.10 lit.ha-1 biozyme through drip (82.15 t/ha).
