ABSTRACT
The results obtained from the present investigation shows that role of chemical solutions is vital for the vase life, quality parameters and biochemical parameters of gerbera flower i.e. fresh weight of flowers, dry weight of flowers, solution/water uptake by the flowers, anthocyanin content, soluble sugar content, reducing sugar content and starch content. In the present study the cultivar Red Star was observed to be superior to the cultivar Pink in terms of vase life and quality parameters of flower. In the chemical solutions, C5 (2% Sucrose + 10ppm AgNO3) was found to be the best in terms of vase life and quality parameters. The treatment combination C5V2 (cv. Red Star with10ppm AgNO3 + 2% Sucrose) was found to be the best in terms of vase life and quality parameters. In the chemical solutions, C6 (4% Sucrose + 10ppm AgNO3) was found to be the best in terms of biochemical parameters. The treatment combination C6V2 (cv. Red Star with 4% Sucrose + 10ppm AgNO3) was found to be the best in terms biochemical parameters.
