Effect of clipping and plant growth regulators on growth and yield of summer sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)

ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during summer season of the year 2018 at College Agronomy Farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand (Gujarat) to study the effect of clipping and plant growth regulators on growth and yield of summer sesame (Sesamum indicum L.). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (Factorial) with four replications. The results revealed that the number of branches, number of capsules, days to 50% flowering and maturity, seed yield, stalk yield and oil yield of summer sesame is significantly influenced by clipping treatment over without clipping treatment. Among different plant growth regulators, GA3 @ 100 ppm shows significantly higher plant height, number of branches, number of capsules, seed yield, stalk yield and oil yield compared to rest of treatments. The plant population does not influence by any of factor studied. Similarly, harvest index, test weight and oil content does not get influenced by clipping or plant growth regulators treatment. Combined effect of clipping and plant growth regulators treatments failed to produce their significant difference in growth and yield attributes viz. plant population net plot-1, plant height, number of branches and seeds plant-1, days to 50% flowering and maturity, seed yield, stalk yield, oil yield, test weight, oil content and harvest index.
