ABSTRACT
An investigation on evaluation of indoor foliage plants viz., Aglaonema nitidum 'Curtisii', Dracaena marginata 'Tricolour; and Schefflera arboricola 'Hicolour' with respect to vegetative growth was carried out under tree shade and four coloured shadenets viz., black, green, red and blue at Regional Horticultural Research and Extension Center, GKVK, Bengaluru during November 2013 to May 2014. Aglaonema, Dracaena and Schefflera plants evaluated under red shadenet recorded maximum plant height (65.80 cm, 67.70 cm and 30.93 cm respectively), thickest stem diameter (2.46 cm, 1.39 cm and 1.19 cm respectively), plant spread (54.75 cm, 34.80 cm and 43.73 cm respectively), number of leaves (27.0, 82.30 and 54.30 respectively), leaf length (29.50 cm, 40.03 cm and 14.57 cm respectively), leaf breadth (10.91 cm, 1.24 cm and 13.38 cm respectively) and leaf area (246.78 cm2, 37.63 cm2 and 102.66 cm2). Dracaena & Schefflera plants under red shadenet recorded, longest internodal length (0.51 cm and 0.73 cm respectively). This study revealed that red shadenet was found best for the production of Aglaonema, Dracaena and Schefflera plants.
