ABSTRACT
The investigation on the effect of different drying methods and packaging material on mineral nutrition of drumstick (Moringa oleifera Lam) was undertaken on drying of drumstick i.e. sun drying (S1) and cabinet drying (S2) and packing of dried drumstick in different packing materials such as 100 guage polyethylene (T1), 200 guage polyethylene bag (T2), 300guage polyethylene bag (T3), 400 guage polyethylene bag (T4), glass jar (T5), plastic jar (T6), Tin container (T7) and brown paper bag (T8). Effect of drying methods and packing materials on mineral nutrition of dried drumstick for 120 days of storage period at 30 days interval was studied. Observations on the phosphorus, calcium and iron content were recorded. All the quality parameters decreased during storage. Among the two methods of drying cabinet dried drumstick found superior as compare to sun drying with better retention of mineral nutrition quality during 120 days of storage. The 400 guage polyethylene bag found best treatment followed by 300 guage and glass jar with low loss of nutrients while drumstick packed in brown paper bag showed more loss of nutrients. Cabinet dried drumstick samples packed in 400 guage polyethylene bags found best combination during the storage.
