ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of different plant spacing and levels of NPK on growth, flowering and seed yield in Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus L.) at Urban Technological Park, Habak, Srinagar, J&K in 2017 and 2018. Twelve different treatment combinations were used which comprised of 4 levels of spacing (25x25 cm,30x30cm,40x40cm and 45x45cm) and 3 levels of NPK (100:100:60 ,125:125:80,and 150:150:100 kg h-1 and were replicated thrice in Completely Randomized Block Design. The investigation revealed that among plant spacing levels, G4 (45x45cm) proved best in case of plant height (83.22 cm), number of leaves plant-1(163.67),number of stems plant-1 (11.22), earliest bud formation(72.67 days),minimum days to 50% flowering(77.22days), number of flowers Plant-1 (25.56), and longer duration of flowering (44.22 days) whereas spacing of 25x25cm(G1) proved better in case of number of seed pods plant-1(295.78) and Seed yield(2.33q ha-1 ). On the other hand levels of NPK had significant effects on growth, flowering and seed yield.. Data revealed that NPK level D3 (150:150:100 kg ha-1) proved best and recorded maximum Plant height (75.17cm),more number of leaves plant-1 (153.50), maximum number of stems plant-1(12.33),maximum number of flowers plant-1(22.08),longest flower duration (41.0 days),more number of seed pods plant-1(278.08), and highest seed yield(1.95q ha-1) however minimum days to early bud formation(76.00 days) and lesser number of days to 50% flowering (82.17days) were observed in D1 NPK,(100:100:60 kg ha-1).
Interactive effects of spacing and NPK were also significant in improving the growth, flowering and yield attributes of snapdragon. Among the 12 treatment combinations used G4xD3 (45x45 cm + 150:150:100kg NPK) proved best and recorded maximum plant height(86.67cm), more number of leaves (167.33), maximum number of Stems Plant-1(12.33), prolonged flower duration (45.33 days). On the other hand G4xD1 (45x45cm &100:100:60kg NPK) had early bud formation (71.67days), minimum days taken to 50% Flowering (76.00 days). Whereas maximum number of flowers plant-1 (27.00) were observed under G1xD3. Seed yield attributes like more number of Seed Pods plant-1(294.67) and maximum seed yield (2.22q h-1) with treatment combination G1xD1(25x25cm and 100:100:60kg NPK).
