ABSTRACT
The present study entitled “Effect of feeding Anjan tree leaves silage on the growth performance of calves” was conducted at livestock Instructional farm, Dr. PDKV, Akola from Dec. 2010 to Mar. 2011. A group of 6 calves were replicated into three groups on the basis of average body weight and age. These groups were allocated to three different feeding treatments namely; T1, T2 and T3. There were experimental feedstuffs like, T1- Green jowar silage in the ration with 300g concentrate and jowar kadbi, T2 - Anjan tree leaves silage without jaggary in the ration with 300g concentrate and jowar kadbi and T3- Anjan tree leaves silage with jaggary in the ration with 300g concentrate and jowar kadbi. The calves of these groups were analyzed by completely randomized design.
It was observed that the body weight gain and body measurements (height, chest girth, length) were significant. Body weight and body measurements directly proportional to each other, so it is obvious that gain in body measurement found. It was observed that the daily DMI more in T1 (6.1 kg) comparatively T2 (4.1 kg) and T3 (5.03 kg).The water intake in T1 (6.5 kg) treatment was more than T2 (6.1 kg) and T3 (5.3 kg) treatments. These three parameters were significant. Thus, the results indicated that feeding of Anjan tree leaves silage to calves could fulfill the maintenance requirement without exhibiting any toxic and adverse effect on the growth rate of the calves.
