ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted to access the efficacy of water soluble nutrients (fertilizers) with reference to flushing, flowering and sex ratio in cashew cv. Vengurla-4 at Agriculture Experimental Station, Paria, Dist. Valsad (Gujarat) during the year 2011-12 and 2012-13 under rainfed conditions with eleven treatments viz., 19:19:19 (1% and 2%), 0:52:34 (1% and 2%), 13:0:45 (1% and 2%), 0:0:50 (1% and 2%), urea (2%), MgSO4 (3%) and control with three replication in randomized block design. Uniform eight year old trees of cashew variety Vengurla-4 planted at 8m x 8m were selected for experimentation. The recommended dose of fertilizers was applied twice to all the treatments including control. All the water soluble nutrients sprays were applied at flushing, flowering and fruit set. During the experimentation, all the growth and flowering attributes were recorded at appropriate stages. Production of laterals (m2), panicle (m2), number of male flowers, perfect flowers and total number of flowers per panicle were noticed maximum when plant sprayed with urea 2% and 19:19:19 2% during both the years and in pooled analysis also. Significantly higher sex ratio was found under the treatments urea (2%), 19:19:19 (1 & 2%) and 13:0:45 (1 & 2 %) in cashew during both the years of study. Minimum duration of flowering in cashew was recorded in urea 2%, which was about 15 days earlier than control resulted into early harvest of the crop.
