ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted during 2007-2008 to study the effect of germination inhibitors on management of spongy tissue in Alphonso mango (Mangifera indica L.) at the Central Experimental Station, Wakawali, Maharashtra. In S.F. category, treatment T6 -Tannic acid (20ppm) showed no incidence of spongy tissue i.e. (0%) as well as no per cent area of spongy tissue (0%) and in S.D. stage, treatment T2 i.e. ABA-10ppm showed minimum incidence of spongy tissue i.e. 18.28% than control. Regarding stone germination aspect, the germination inhibitors (PEG-10ppm and Tannic Acid -20ppm) reduced the germination of stone and delayed the stone germination than germination promoters (GA3 and Salicylic acid) and control. The germination promoters increased the stone germination and hastened the germination period than control.
