ABSTRACT
Thirty eight sorghum genotypes received from ICRISAT, Patancheru, Hyderabad grown in 2002 and 2003 and infected with grain mold were evaluated for the effect of grain mold on physical properties of grains of these genotypes. Sorghum genotypes differed significantly for test weight, grain volume, grain density, floater grains and grain hardness during both the years. Maximum test weight was observed in PVK-801 while maximum grain volume was observed in SGMR-21. SGMR-8 recorded maximum grain density. Minimum floater grains were observed in SGMR-6 and IS-14384. Maximum grain hardness was observed in PVK-801. Test weight, grain volume and grain hardness were significantly higher when harvesting was carried out at physiological maturity than at crop maturity; while grain density and floater grains were significantly higher when harvesting was carried out at crop maturity than at physiological maturity. Interaction between sorghum genotypes and stages of harvest existed in both the years except floater grains during 2003.
